Hi all - since recently departing fr
om Microsoft, I've moved my blog home from MSDN to Blogger.com. (Old blog can be found here:

I'll update with more details later, but the short of it is that I now work for an awesome SharePoint consulting company in Maryland called
Trilogy Solutions. We specialize in engineering enterprise-class MOSS architectures for corporations, government agencies and military commands.
It's been a busy two weeks since my departure from Microsoft Consulting Services! In fact, I helped Trilogy Solutions ship a brand new product today. The freeware app is called DriveSight for SharePoint, and it's going to be a tremendous asset for the SharePoint community. Here are the details:
********************************************
"DriveSight is a compact, customizable freeware tool designed by Trilogy Solutions to assist the SharePoint community in analyzing drives, folders and files which may be uploaded into, or indexed by, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. DriveSight can analyze both local drives as well as drives across the network, categorizing each file by size, type, age, and whether or not it's indexable or blocked by SharePoint. DriveSight displays the results in real-time during the scan, and generates a comprehensive printable report with tables and charts. We recognize that not all enterprise file shares are created equal: some primarily contain gigabytes of archived office documents, while others may act as a repository for all sorts of files - drawings, images, executables, videos, etc. Some of these file shares have been used as catch-all archives for years on end, and the fact is that most large organizations have very little idea what sort of information is stored there. In order to for SharePoint Consultants and SharePoint Administrators to properly configure MOSS to house or index this content, it's really important to understand the data. How much can actually be full-text indexed for Search? What percentage of that file share is Word Documents vs. jpegs? If we decide to upload the file share into a document library, how much of it will be blocked due to SharePoint’s default “Blocked File Types” list? How many of these files haven’t been modified in several years, and perhaps don’t belong in SharePoint?Furthermore, in order to make use of the formula (Total_Corpus_Size (in GB) x File_Size_Modifier) recommended by Microsoft’s Capacity Requirements for Search guidance ( http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262574.aspx ), we must first know what the average file size is for that content source. Traditionally speaking, this information hasn’t been easy to obtain. These are the types of questions that DriveSight is designed to answer. It’s completely free, and we hope you find it as useful as we do!"DriveSight Information Page:
